WMTH 60th Anniversary Press Release

4 FEB 2020 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – CHICAGO, NORTH / NORTHWEST SUBURBS

This school year marks the 60th year of WMTH-FM, with studios at each of the Maine Township high schools in Des Plaines and Park Ridge. Alumni are excited about the event and making plans to return on Saturday April 4, 2020. Current and recent student staff members are also encouraged to attend.

WMTH-FM, 90.5 FM, first went on the air in December 1959 with the voice of students Harrison Ford, yes, the famous actor, and Marshall Seese, recently retired from The Weather Channel. They announced the play-by-play of a Friday night basketball game. Since that time, literally thousands of students participated in radio broadcasting starting as young as 13 years old. From that group, about 15% went on to work in broadcasting and entertainment industry.

On Saturday April 4, 2020, we invite students, school staff, and alumni to visit the WMTH-FM studio at their respective school between 10 AM and 1 PM. Maine North alumni are invited to the Maine East studio.

The Open House will be followed by a 2:00 to 4:45 P.M. presentation featuring alumni celebrities who now work in the broadcasting industry. This will be at the Park Ridge Library 1st floor meeting room. Due to space limitation, the afternoon event is restricted to current and former student staff and faculty. Visit wmthalumni.com for the latest information about this event.

The Park Ridge Library requires this statement: “This is not a Library-sponsored event. Except for providing meeting space, the Park Ridge Public Library is not in any manner connected with this meeting, and neither the Library nor the Board of Trustees endorses any position expressed by the group.”
