Daryl was born in the City of Hampton located in north central Iowa. The son of Dr. Ole N. Schultz and Alvena E. Daryl began his post graduate career at Washington High School in Washington, IA and taught English, Speech and Drama. In the mid 1960s, he moved to the Chicago, IL area where he would teach at several high schools in the NW suburbs before eventually landing at Maine Township High School District 207. After living in Wheaton and Arlington Heights, they made Elk Grove Village their home for the next 47 years on Forest Lane and raised their two children, Peter and Kirstin.
After his retirement from Maine West High School, Daryl started his “second career” as an actor. He appeared in numerous local theater productions over the years while also finding work in many commercials, public service announcements, television programs (most notably “America’s Most Wanted”), radio theater productions and even a few bit parts in some major motion pictures including “The Package” with Gene Hackman and “Next of Kin” with Patrick Swayze.
In his spare time, Daryl enjoyed travelling with Jane to different locales (including Alaska, Canada and Europe) along with playing golf, bicycling, exercising, researching and creating his family tree, and watching/yelling at the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Daryl is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Roberta “Jane” Schultz, son Peter (Emma) Schultz of Lake Geneva, WI, daughter Kirstin (Brian) Stieglitz of Lombard, IL, adoring granddaughters Abril Mecozzi, Salma Schultz and Madeline Stieglitz, and cherished great-grandsons Jay and Jake Mecozzi.
