Maine FM Station In Operation
Many local residents, living within a ten mile radius of Maine Township high
school and owning FM receivers, have surely discovered that Station WMTH-FM has
been in operation during the past week.
Last Friday's and Saturday's varsity basketball games, Maine vs Downers Grove
and Maine vs Elgin, were broadcast in their entirety. On Monday, Dec. 20, from
12:30 to 1:15 p.m., a special introductory broadcast was presented. This was
repeated at 6:30 p.m., followed by a program of helpful hints on Christmas
decorations and holiday recipes by members of the home economics staffs at MTHS
and MTHS West.
Tuesday, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Maine's Messiah was presented and on Wednesday
evening MTHS West's Christmas program was heard. There will be no further
programs, howeever, until Jan. 4, when the station will start its regular
daytime broadcasts from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Evening programs of dinner music will
start at 6:30 p.m., followed by programs especially designed to interpret the
schools to the public and for the improvement of home study.
Last Thursday, Dec. 17 Dr. Earle W. Wiltse, superintendent of District No. 207
announced that he had received official permission from the Federal
Communications Commission authorizing the operation of the FM station, WMTH, for
program tests. Under the authority of the commission, the Maine Township high
school district may now proceed with regular programming on a scheduled basis.
According to Keith Honn, program director of WMTH FM, several special noon-day
and evening programs have been arranged for the weeks following Christmas
vacation. Program listing will appear in this publication. students who have
undergone special training for the past two months, who will do the announcing
and assist in directing the programs, include: Announcers, Karen Anderson,
chairman, Jim Brockhouse, Kathy Burns, Tom Chadwick, Jim Donovan, Harry Ford,
Karen Holz, Sherry Marcy, Dave Matthiesen, Marsha Sayers, Kathie Scotellaro,
Marsh Secse, Bill Sprague, Karen Streckert and Elaine Vente. Writers, John Fry,
chairman, Barry Deal, Darlene Dost, Susan Engelke, Kathy Forster, Elaine
Gabrenya, Pamela Henkin, Martha Miller, Judy Osterland and Mary Plimpton. Office
Statff, Carolyn Nosbaum, chairman, Donna Bonham, Mary Hays, Pamela Healy,
Pauline Jeckel, Eleanor Hedenberg, Margaret Jezierski, Helen Krejsa, Mary Sue
McElveen, Renee Rosenberg and Julie Wondsor.
